Fly Fishing Guide- Breckenridge, CO

Hello!

I'm Mike Roschak a.k.a. "The Reel Fly Fishing Master", I was born and raised in Oklahoma and eventually moved to the beautiful mountains of Breckenridge, Colorado.

I'm blessed to have now enjoyed over 40 years of fishing the majority of that with a fly rod, reel and a fly.

I started my life bait fishing as a young boy of about 5 years old in 1951. Over the years I have grown to love all kinds of fishing. However, I'd have to say that my favorites are Ice Fishing and Fly Fishing in both lakes and rivers.

As a self taught fly fisherman I was excited to learn. There was something about this craft of fly fishing that really spoke to my inner spirit. I couldn't get enough of it! 40 years later...I’m still learning and I still can't get enough of it. I wouldn’t say I’m the purest of fly casters. I just catch fish and enjoy life!

These are some of the biggest fish I’ve caught on a fly rod and reel with a fly alone. (almost all of them I caught using my 10" 8 weight 4-piece rod)
Warm Water:16 lb Catfish
30 lb Tarpon
40 lb Grass Carp
15 lb Common Carp
12 lb Striped Bass
14 lb Wiper
10 lb Walleye
8 lb Large Mouth Bass
17” Crappie
1.25 lb Blue Gill

Cold Water Fish:10 lb Brown Trout
9 lb Rainbow Trout
20 lb Northern Pike
12 lb Lake Trout
7 lb Steel Head
30 lb King Salmon
15 lb Silver Salmon

40 years and counting and I still love catching those monster fish on a fly! I am looking forward to sharing my insight, knowledge and stories with you.

Scouting Day

Scouting Day for Lake Antero Ice Fishing Tournament on Jan, 15th 2011

12/22/10
7:45 am
Destination: Lake Antero, Colorado
Air Temp: 13 degrees after an unusually warm 2 weeks of weather
After 40 Years of fishing these Colorado lakes I’ve never seen this much open water during the winter.
Today I was ice fishing with flies. I went to my old fishing spot after crossing three pressure ridges of open water. After reaching my spot I got on my hands and knees to check the thickness of the ice with a hatchet and it broke straight through after 1.5” of ice.
Woah!!
I’ve never seen this spot on the lake this thin during late December in all the years I’ve been fishing here. I backed out and went to deeper water which was 5 inches thick with large bodies of open water at about 100 yards further out.
Today’s Fishing Report:
Saw 15 fish
Caught 7 fish
12-15 inch Rainbow Trout
A Great Day. A Safe Day. A Blessed Day.
